"The Test of My Love" is the twenty-seventh episode of the second season of Hannah Montana. It premiered on August 31, 2008.
The episode title is a play on the song "Best of My Love" by The Emotions.
Plot[]
On the beach, a very wealthy but snobby couple donate $250,000 to build a playground. While listening to them, Miley falls head over heels for a boy named Trey whom she sees in the crowd. Wanting to impress him, Miley confidently approaches and strikes up a conversation—casually calling out the wealthy couple for being stuck-up. But her plan backfires when they proudly introduce their son... and it turns out to be him—Trey.
Two days later, Miley's back at the beach, still thinking about Trey. While she and Lilly are talking about him, he suddenly appears behind her and overhears everything. He then asks her out on a date—but there’s just one little issue: his parents will be there too.
Meanwhile, Traci asks Hannah to attend her "Putt-Putt for Puppies" charity event that same day. To help Miley keep her date with Trey, Lilly, dressed as Lola, goes in her place. Unfortunately, Lola doesn't exactly blend in. She loudly crashes the event, chases after Orlando Bloom, and completely ignores the formal vibe, leaving Traci horrified.
During the date, Miley wants to make a good impression with Trey's extremely snotty parents. However, after enduring one too many passive-aggressive jabs about her Southern accent and background, Miley accidentally tells them that she's preformed for the Queen, thus almost revealing her secret identity. Trying to fix the situation, she panics and blurts out a lie—that her father is a diplomat in England. Trey's parents are thrilled and insist on meeting him, which leads to the entire group ending up at the Stewart house.
Desperate to keep up the act, Miley ropes Robby Ray and Jackson into the charade. But as the situation spirals out of control, Miley learns an important lesson: pretending to be someone you're not just to please others isn't worth it. In the end, she realizes that being herself—Southern accent and all—is more than enough.
In a subplot, the new housekeeper quits after finding Jackson's room. Robbie is forced to take drastic action after Jackson's messy room takes on a life of its own.
